COMMUNITY CHOICE AGGREGATION

What is Community Choice Aggregation (CCA)?

Community Choice Aggregation allows cities, towns, and villages to join together (“aggregate”) to source electricity on behalf of their residents. By pooling their demand, these municipalities can secure low-cost, 100% New York generated, renewable electricity at a rate comparable to that of standard fossil fuels.

CCA gives residents an additional choice beyond the variable-rate fossil fuel default offered by their utility providers. And, because there are no contracts, enrollment fees, or penalties for leaving the program, CCA protects individual consumers from bad actors and gives them autonomy over their electricity.

More than five million customers nationwide are served by CCA programs in seven states: California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Rhode Island. Dozens of New York municipalities are pursuing CCA to better serve their constituents and achieve local clean energy goals.

OUR CURRENT CCA PROGRAMS

Hudson Valley Community Power began as a partnership of ten communities which launched their first CCA for the term of Spring 2019 through Fall 2022, and renewed their CCA participation with twelve communities in Spring 2023.

Rockland Community Power began as a partnership of six communities which launched in Spring 2020 for a 2 year term. RCP renewed their CCA participation with six communities in early 2023.

For these two aggregation programs, we were chosen to serve as Local Program Manager, selected by our partner Joule Community Power, who acts as the Program Administrator.

As of October 2022, Hudson Valley Community Power and Rockland Community Power have saved

110,700 metric tons of greenhouse gas equivalent emissions

from entering the atmosphere as a result of participation in community choice electricity supply offering.
